People in Kochi
by Huang, Yu Hua
This was my first time to Sikoku, and it
also my first trip in oversea only by myself. In this forty days trip, I met
many people.
Okada sensei
Okada sensei was the first teacher who I
knew in kochi.
Okada sensei was very kind, although he had
a serious face.
I joined his class that about disaster prevention and community, The class was talk
about how to make people have crisis sense to
prevention and how to give people prevention information efficiently. This was my first time learning about this. After this, Taiwan also have many prevention,
I think school in Taiwan should pay more attention on this.
Kitayama sensei
Kitayama sensei
was my advisor. She was energetic and pretty. She taught me architecture
history and traditional Japanese architecture. Every weekends she drove car to
bring me and some students to many shrines which were related to ekin the
paintings by painter named Kinzou in edo period. When the first time I see
ekin, I thought the red of ekin was very beautiful but horrible. I very enjoyed
these trips. We had been to a small shrine in the mountain which couldn’t found
in google map and there was even unknown by some residents who lived around
here. In the one of day we went to kahaku shrine, the god of this shrine is
kahaku, who love cucumber and sumo. In this festival, shrine hold a competition
for children, it was very cute and interesting. No matter boys or girls, all of
them can join. Winner laughed and some of loser cried, but all of they can earn
toys.
One of the most important
place for ekin is Akaoka. In Akaoka, there were more than ten ekines displayed
in ekin festival which was hold at night. To record the festival, I helped teacher
taking photos. It was not easy to take these at night, To protect ekines and make
street have old style, there were not use any lamp on the street, only had
candles. Akaoka is also an old town.
This town is in the countryside so as now it still have many traditional
houses. But there wasn’t have many job in the town so many people had left
here. To protect traditional house and make people want to come Akaoka,
Kitayama sensei hold a workshop in here every month. I joined it. In this
workshop, there was a madam taught me how to cook soumen the Japanese noodle
meal, and this is first time I cook in the old style kitchen that didn’t have
gas. The other thing I did in the workshop is clean up house tools which used
in edo period. I only can see it in the museum in usual, but this time I
touched it and saw it very close. It was really a special experience.
Kitayama sensei
aked me to have a class about Taiwanese architecture for third grade students.
To prepare the class we talked many things about history, culture and
architecture. I think in these 30 days I not only learned Japanese architecture
but also realized Taiwan more.
My friends

we also talked about hometown, they let me knew many places in kochi and how
