Because of the high level of education and free tuition policy, Germany attracts more and more international students from all over the world like me, making Germany a multicultural country. Which gives me a great motivation learning in this historical country.
Aside from the subjects, there are two organizations providing information for international students.One is international office, which is sub-operated by the university, providing formal aids including exchange sign up process, registration information providing, international students problems solving… etc. The other one is a student founded organization called “IKUS” (abbreviation of InterKUlturelle Studenten). Not limited to only for international students, IKUS is aiming on providing a great platform to share knowledge about various culture and to interact with people from all over the world. IKUS holds KIKUS night, which they hold night parties for people to drink and to play pull, kicks and board games together, every Thursday night to pull out the pressure from studies. And it’s quite a great place to make friends and get the first information of new events once being in Magdeburg.
Basically, the restaurant outside is quite expensive, most people would cook themselves at home. So that it’s essential to fill up the food supply myself. I usually went to Kaufland, a chain super market in Germany, once a week to refill my stock of food and other daily utilities. It approximately spent around 20 Euro every time in average.
Like in Taiwan, books could be found in bookstore in the campus. But mostly are really expensive, which is the same when classmates say that they can book them together as well, without discount. So that the budget way to buy class books are also to ask seniors or go to second handed stores to find your ones. Apart of my studies, the place I go the most are the night clubs and bars with friends. Most of them charged hanging fee for collecting and reserve the clothes around 1 to 2 Euro, drinks are for 1 to 5 per bottle, which depends on the bar. Don’t forget the entrance fee, some of them are free to enter but some are even more to 10 Euro.
Because of the expensive transportation, it’s really hard to travel in Europe with little budget. Thanks to IKUS, they have excursion every two weeks taking people out to other cities visiting places and having tour guide with a great price, which would save more than 5 times of the price, but very limited with the place. People who loves to see the country like me always be striving hard queueing on line for the tickets. And it sometimes been sold out even not started to sell.
I am a Taipei city boy, haven’t experience much nature before, so that the most impressive view I had was the icy world. The white and blue color was covering my eyes. The crystal clear of the air was keeping me fresh and awake. It was my first time seeing snow and freezing lake, my reaction was so dramatic wild like other international students who experience earthquake for the first time, which makes me extraordinary excited and hyper like no one.
Besides, the influence I had the most about food is surprisingly the India food. I was lucky enough to have some cool Indian friends, inviting me to join their home parties. And it also my first time to try the real India food. The only word I can tell is “awesome”. And since the smell of the spice is so strong, we found an interesting fact that people can actually tell if the floor or the building lives India people.
After I step out of Taipei airport, I found myself back to the continent which I belong to and have the great ending of the fantastic journey. Over all, I found my life is not going to have the same direction anymore. But with the eyes saw on another side of the world, I will keep searching and take the advantage of what I learned to help people around, to be greater and stronger.

How it started ?
As the graduation comes, I found that I lack of the vision of international perspective. At that moment, I started to realize how important the experience will bring to my later life. So I strived hard on studying in English for applying for the exchange program abroad.Because of the high level of education and free tuition policy, Germany attracts more and more international students from all over the world like me, making Germany a multicultural country. Uni background
Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg is named after the mayor and the inventor of the Magdeburg hemispheres, Otto von Guericke (1602–1686). And to honor of discovering atmospheric pressure, there are many statues of hemispheres pulling by horses which represent the historical experiment in 1656 everywhere in the city. As the location goes, we can also reach Berlin within two hours by bus, which is really convenient if people want to visit or going to other cities or countries. Also, Magdeburg is the capital city and the second largest city of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. Therefore, it’s really convenient to obtain daily needs and can go any govern offices easily by city transportations. What’s more, with the student ID card, students can get on every transportation within Magdeburg city for free. And can deposit money the card for paying for meals in cafeteria.
Student life in OVGU
There are three type of courses including lecture, tutorial and seminar. Students can choose their needs on classes and can obtain different experience to cooperate with their classmates and thinking sharing with professors during the class. So that students have more options to regain some important concepts of the subjects and wilder acquiring to their studies. In my case, Game theory is a class with lecture and tutorial.
